Our new “comfort zone”

This year, for the first time, we hosted the summer party at the location of our holiday home. This party is held every summer in the garden of a different neighbor.
During such parties usually a lot of liquids are consumed. So we had to shift priorities to renovate first the restroom. I convinced ElJefe to interrupt the construction of the bathroom upstairs and take care of the restroom.
After this decision, ElJefe was in his element: measuring, recalculating, fiddling and tinkering, buying tiles, lugging sacks and a lot of swearing in between, but otherwise happy.

The tiles
The floor tiles had already been laid when the large open-plan living room was tiled. For the wall tiles of the restroom we opted for a tile size of 40×80 cm and the color crème white. The left-hand wall was simply covered with plasterboard and painted. The rest of the room was only tiled halfway up. ElJefe was afraid that otherwise there would be a kind of tunnel effect in this small, narrow room.

We first stored the tiles temporarily in the entrance after delivery. However, the large anthracite-colored tiles on the photos are the floor tiles for the bathroom upstairs.

The plasterboard
We live plasterboard for years. We will really miss it when there is nothing left to build and renovate 🙂 But plasterboard remains a wonderful building material that can be used to transform the ugly into the beautiful.

The electrics
ElJefe also planned where the electrics had to go. So it was time again to pull hoses and cables for switches, sockets, lamps etc. before everything was covered with plasterboard.

The tiling
ElJefe borrowed a tile cutter from a colleague. The tiles were on very quickly. Well, it didn’t quite work without the usual incorrect measuring and swearing 😉

The painting
I was also allowed to make a small contribution and paint. We opted for the color white because the room is relatively small. We prefer to use decorative elements and plants to add color.

The end result
I’m really pleased with the windowsill, which is made of the same stone as our kitchen worktop. I’m a big fan of windowsills because I can put plants on them.
We bought the sink too narrow. Before we decided to buy it, we were worried that it would take up too much space in the room and one would bump into it. Now, unfortunately, it splashes a lot when we wash our hands.
We renovated an old, iconic lamp – left by the previous owners – as a ceiling lamp.

The party
Once the work was done, we enjoyed his year’s summer party with neighbors, friends and family. It was a big success.
