Our new “comfort station”

This year, for the first time, we were the organizer of the traditional summer party in the village where our vacation home is located. The party is held every summer in a different neighbor’s garden.
Normally, a lot of liquids are consumed during this kind of party. So we had to prioritize the renovation of the restroom. I convinced ElJefe to stop renovating the upstairs bathroom and take care of the “little corner” on the first floor in order to finish it for the party.
After this decision, ElJefe was in his element: measuring, calculating, tinkering, buying tiles, carrying bags and swearing from time to time, but otherwise happy.

The tiles
The floor tiles had already been laid when the large open living room was tiled. For the wall tiles in the restroom, we opted for 40×80 cm, creamy-white tiles. The left-hand wall was covered solely with plasterboard and painted. The rest of the room was tiled only halfway up. ElJefe was afraid there would be a sort of tunnel effect in this small, narrow room if we tiled everywhere.

On delivery, we stored the tiles in the entry room until needed. The large anthracite tiles on the photos below are the floor tiles for the bathroom upstairs.

The plasterboard
We live plasterboard since years. We will really miss it when there is nothing left to build and renovate 🙂 But plasterboard remains a wonderful building material that can be used to transform an ugly room into something very beautiful.

The electrics
ElJefe planned exactly where the electrics had to go. So it was time again to pull hoses and cables for switches, sockets, lamps etc. before everything was covered with plasterboard.

The tiling
ElJefe borrowed a tile cutter from a colleague. The tiles were on the walls very quickly. Well, it didn’t quite work without the usual incorrect measuring and swearing 😉

The painting
I was also allowed to make a small contribution and paint. We opted for the color white because the room is relatively small. We prefer to use decorative elements and plants to add color.

The end result
I’m really pleased with the windowsill, which is made of the same stone as our kitchen worktop. I’m a big fan of windowsills because I can put plants on them.
We realized that the sink that we bought was a little too narrow. We were worried that it would be too deep and one would bump into it. Unfortunately, it now splashes a lot when washing hands.
We renovated an old, iconic lamp – left by the previous owners – as a ceiling light (new lamp photo will follow).

The summer party
After the work was done, we could enjoy this year’s summer party with neighbors, friends and family. It was a big success.
